Midwest Fertility Specialists is partnering with the No. 7 One Cure Schmidt Peterson Motorsports/AFS Racing Honda, driven by Indy 500 veteran driver Jay Howard for this year’s 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500. This marks the second consecutive year that the practice has partnered with Howard and his family, who fought a long battle with infertility.
By partnering with the practice, Howard and his wife, Courtney, hope to continue promoting infertility awareness and share their story of hope and determination. The couple welcome their first child, Hudson, two years ago.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in eight couples in the United States have experienced difficulty conceiving. Despite how common infertility is, it is often considered a taboo topic that many are embarrassed to discuss.
“Infertility is nothing to be ashamed of,” Howard says. “The more you talk about it, the more of a chance you have of getting pointed in the right direction and getting help.”
The Howards are open about sharing their story to encourage couples to ask questions and seek help if needed.
“It’s so important to spread the message to other couples trying to conceive that they are not alone and that there is hope,” says Dr. Erica Anspach Will, reproductive endocrinologist at Midwest Fertility Specialists. “There are a number of options available to help you start your family, and a fertility specialist can help you navigate what’s best in your individual circumstance.”
After struggling with infertility for more than five years, Jay and Courtney were able to have their little boy, Hudson, using a gestational carrier and using Midwest Fertility’s services. The family recently celebrated Hudson’s second birthday.
Howard, who begins practice for his third Indy 500 on Tues., May 15, will attempt to qualify on Sat., May 19, and will compete in the race on Sun., May 27, with live coverage on ABC beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
