Schmidt Peterson Motorsports co-owner Sam Schmidt has been announced as part of Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame’s 2017 class alongside the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Butch Harmon, Overton Curtis and the Las Vegas Bowl.
“The class of 2017 is accomplished in so many different ways,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Dan Dolby. “We have an outstanding group of athletes who have contributed so much both in the competitive arena and in the community, as well as one of most iconic and longest-lasting sporting events in our city. This class again represents the best attributes of our community, and we are thrilled to bestow upon them the state’s highest sports honor in welcoming them to the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.”
“I’m truly honored to be recognized with this group of incredible athletes and organizations,” said Schmidt. “When you look at the other recipients over the past 21 years, it is truly a who’s who of Nevada sports and community leaders, all of which I respect tremendously and several I call friends. I am proud that this award represents both accomplishments on the track and as a team owner, as well as a commitment to giving back to the local community which has always been important to my family.”
In addition to co-heading up the Indianapolis-based Verizon IndyCar Series team, Schmidt’s recent endeavors include becoming the first individual to ever receive a semi-autonomous driver’s license, recently driving up to the top of Pikes Peak – an elevation of 14,115 feet.
Sam and the other four inductees will be honored on Friday, June 2 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Ticket information and additional details about the induction ceremony can be found at www.SNSHF.com. The Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization committed to recognizing the outstanding achievements by Southern Nevada athletes, both in the world of sports and the local community.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to organizations committed to the support and enhancement of Southern Nevada youth through active participation in programs designed to promote leadership, values and character through sports.
