Fort Worth, TX – June 12, 2016 – After two days of rain delays at Texas Motor Speedway, the Firestone 600 was canceled and rescheduled for Saturday, August 27.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports drivers James Hinchcliffe and Mikhail Aleshin were tenth and sixteenth, respectively, on the starting grid. Storms rolling through the Fort Worth area on Saturday afternoon forced the Verizon IndyCar Series to push the race back a day to Sunday.
Weather continued to be a factor on Sunday, delaying the start of the race briefly due mainly to track weepers. When the green flag finally fell, the first 40 laps went caution-free.
On lap 41, Hinchcliffe was leading the race and Aleshin was third when a massive crash caused a 30-lap caution period that only ended when rain started to fall again. Severe weather forced teams back to the garages before the race was finally called off and scheduled to resume on August 27.
